This position is located within the U.S Coast Guard Shore Infrastructure Logistics Center (SILC) at a Civil Engineering Unit, Environmental Management Branch. As the branch chief you will be responsible for leading, directing and guiding the effective and efficient execution and management of the Coast Guard's multifaceted environmental program incorporating broad programmatic aspects of environmental planning, environmental compliance, environmental restoration and management of environmental liabilities and environmental sustainability/stewardship in support of Coast Guard operations and missions throughout the CEU. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
Overseeing the planning, development and implementation of the environmental protection plans/directives/projects that are required for compliance with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations and Coast Guard policy. Providing direct administrative and technical supervision of a multidisciplinary workforce; engineers, planners, real property managers, and other support staff to include oversight, evaluation, and development of both individuals and teams within own branch. Planning, directing, managing, and monitoring the execution of depot level compliance, NEPA environmental planning, restoration/environmental liabilities management, and sustainability/environmental stewardship projects and activities. Acting as a subject matter expert for a wide range of environmental programs encompassing environmental remediation/restoration and environmental liabilities, environmental compliance, environmental planning, and environmental sustainability. Managing and prioritizing resources to ensure support of unit compliance and sustainability activities. Managing and coordinating the technical environmental program review of designs for all projects assigned to the CEI from inception to final documentation. Providing authoritative environmental technical advice in own area of scientific expertise, to support shore infrastructure logistics and the execution of Coast Guard civil engineering/ facilities management program. Maintaining current knowledge of scientific subjects and applying specialized technical knowledge to recommend far reaching improvements to environmental evaluations, investigations, or review processes. Liaising with federal, state, tribal, county, municipal and similar agencies and officials on a wide variety of environmental program issues to ensure necessary project permitting, natural/cultural/historical impact assessments, development of MOAs/MOUs and similar documents, and all NEPA documentation is accomplished in an appropriate and timely manner to avoid/prevent impact to planned execution schedules and established project timelines. Conducting and participating in Environmental Compliance Evaluations (ECEs), hazardous materials and hazardous waste management surveys, assessments of Compliance Management Plans (CMPs) / Environmental Management System (EMS), compliance assistance visits, and similar environmental audits/assessments. Evaluating unit environmental programs for compliance with federal, state, and regional/local requirements and department/agency policies; in order to judge the effectiveness of unit compliance programs, plans, and practices. Basic Requirements Qualifications for Environmental Engineer Series, GS-0819 Degree:
professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must:
(1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics:
(a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR B. Combination of education and experience--college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:
1. Professional registration--Current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. 2. Written Test- Evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-in- Training (EIT) examination, or the written test required for professional registration, which is administered by the Boards of Engineering Examiners in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. 3. Specified academic courses--Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum as described in paragraph A. 4. Related curriculum--Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Basic Requirements Qualifications for Research Physical Scientist Series, GS-1301:
Degree:
physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR B. Combination of education and experience--education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Basic Requirements Qualifications for General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series, 0401 Degree:
biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and
Experience:

In addition to meeting the basic requirements for either series the applicant must demonstrate Specialized Experience.Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal Service. Examples of specialized experience include:
Leading a multi-disciplinary team of professionals; Applying scientific or engineering principles, concepts and practices to independently execute and manage a wide range of environmental activities or programs ( such as environmental compliance, environmental remediation/restoration, environmental liabilities, pollution prevention, environmental stewardship/sustainability, or the preservation of cultural, historical and natural resources programs) Providing supervision or directing professional, technical, and administrative staff; Evaluating environmental programs for compliance with federal, state, and regional/local requirements and department/agency policies; Managing and prioritizing resources to ensure support of unit compliance and sustainability activities; and Planning specific objectives, tasks, milestones, and phases for complex environmental engineering projects. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
