Scruffy Paws Animal Rescue houses kittens/cats for adoption, medical care, and socialization prior to adoption.
We also have a small surgical suite that assists in providing veterinary care to shelter cats, low income pet owners, and feral cats located in Rhode Island.
We are seeking a part time kennel attendant to properly care for our rescues and potentially assist in the surgical suite when needed.
We are searching for someone to work approximately 15-20 hours weekly.
Purpose of Position:
To assist the directors and managers of the shelter.
Also assist in managing volunteers.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
- Feeding and cleaning the shelter/hospital cats.
- Administering daily Medications.
Will train.
- Coordinating and overseeing volunteers.
- Ensuring supplies are stocked and ready for use.
- Monitoring and assessing kittens/cat while staying in the shelter.
- Socializing kittens/cats that need to work on human socialization.
- Assist the directors, managers, and veterinarian with any tasks needed.
Required skills:
-MUST BE RELIABLE, self-motivated, and possess strong organizational skills.
-Must be able to communicate and interact with the public and volunteers in a professional manner, including the ability to handle difficult and often emotionally-charged situations.
-Must have ability or be willing to learn how to perform common procedures such as giving subcutaneous fluids and vaccinations.
-Must be compassionate and have a strong understanding of feline behavior.
-Must be passionate about the welfare and care of cats.
-Must have extensive experience handling and working with cats of all temperaments, especially shy and semi-feral cats.
-Must have the ability to triage medical issues, calculate dosing, and administer medications and vaccinations.
-Must possess familiarity with common feline illnesses, diseases and treatments; understanding of vaccine schedules/protocols.
Must have strong communication, leadership, and computer skills.
-Must be effective at multi-tasking and prioritizing.
-Must be able to lift 50lbs+.
Such as kennels and litter.
Shifts Required:
2 - 5 hour shifts during the week.
2 - Saturdays a month.
1-2 Sunday evenings.
Potential additional evenings.
Also have flexibility if needed to stay late or come in early.
Experience Required:
At least 2 years of experience working in an animal shelter, rescue organization, veterinary hospital, or similar setting.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
