Scruffy Paws Animal Rescue houses kittens/cats for adoption, medical care, and socialization prior to adoption.
We also have a small surgical suite that assists in providing veterinary care to shelter cats, low income pet owners, and feral cats located in Rhode Island.
We are seeking a part time Adoption Specialist to find our rescue's suitable homes by following our policies and procedures, participate in adoption events and finalize adoptions, and manage a small team of volunteer adoption coordinators.
There will also be some minimal shelter duties such as feeding, cleaning, socializing, and other shelter tasks requested by the shelter manager or directors.
We are looking for someone who is thorough, organized, works well with others, and is confident when speaking to people on the phone or in-person.
We are searching for someone to work approximately 20-25 hours weekly.
Purpose of Position:
Find suitable homes for our rescues by following our policies.
Participate in adoption events.
Finalize adoptions.
Manage a small team of volunteer adoption coordinators.
Assist with minimal shelter duties.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
- Minimal feeding and cleaning the shelter/hospital cats.
- Administering daily Medications.
Will train.
- Monitor the health of the animals on an ongoing basis and immediately report any health problems or conditions (medical or behavioral) to the shelter manager or directors.
- Socializing kittens/cats that need to work on human socialization.
- Assist the directors, managers, and veterinarian with any tasks requested.
- Process adoption/foster applications.
Calling references including personal and veterinary references.
Perform basic background checks.
Performing phone interviews with applicants.
- Coordinating and overseeing volunteer adoption coordinators.
- Participate/Host Adoption Events.
- Answer Adoption questions from the public.
- Finalize adoptions.
- Assist animal coordinators with adoption preparation tasks as requested (including, but not limited to:
writing adoption bios, taking pictures, updating computer database, and completing paperwork).
Required skills:
-MUST BE RELIABLE, self-motivated, and possess STRONG organizational skills.
-MUST be thorough, comfortable with multi-tasking, and prioritizing.
-Must be comfortable and confident speaking on the phone and in-person.
- Must have excellent written and oral communications skills; Ability to read, write and understand English.
- Generalized computer skills; able to maintain and use a variety of websites to check and confirm information; able to navigate and use social media websites -Must be able to communicate and interact with the public and volunteers in a professional manner, including the ability to handle difficult and often emotionally-charged situations.
-Must be compassionate and have a strong understanding of feline behavior or eager to learn.
-Must be passionate about the welfare and care of cats.
-Must have extensive experience handling and working with cats of all temperaments, especially shy and semi-feral cats.
-Must possess familiarity with common feline illnesses, diseases and treatments; understanding of vaccine schedules/protocols.
Must have strong communication, leadership, and computer skills.
-Must be able to lift 50lbs+.
Such as kennels and litter.
Shifts Required:
3 - 5 hour shifts during the week.
2 - Saturdays a month.
Scheduling needs to be within business hours.
Also have flexibility if needed to stay late or come in early.
This position is for 20-25 hours weekly.
Experience Required:
At least 2 years of experience working in an animal shelter, rescue organization, veterinary hospital, or similar setting.
